The judge deemed personal attacks on his staff unacceptable and intolerable. Trump's comments targeted the clerk, whom he referred to as "Schumer's girlfriend," and accused her of running the case against him. The judge was also angered by an email from Trump's campaign criticizing him as a "Far-Left Democrat."
