Trump's Legal Maneuvers Denied in E. Jean Carroll Case

A federal appeals court has denied former President Donald Trump's request to stay the 2019 defamation lawsuit brought by writer E. Jean Carroll, which is scheduled to go to trial on January 15. Carroll alleges that Trump defamed her when he denied her claim of rape and said she was "not my type." The court has ordered both sides to submit written briefs to argue whether Trump should be able to invoke presidential immunity to shield himself from Carroll's claim. Trump's attorney argued for a pause in the case to allow time to invoke an immunity defense, but the district court judge faulted Trump for waiting over three years to do so.
