A Washington, D.C. appeals court has declined to grant immunity to former President Donald Trump in the first of two civil defamation lawsuits filed by writer E. Jean Carroll, who accused him of raping her nearly three decades ago. The court sent the case back to the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan. The decision does not affect Carroll's second lawsuit, which includes a battery claim under a New York law. A trial is scheduled for April 25 in Manhattan federal court. Trump wants to postpone the trial, but the judge refused to delay it.
