Montana bans drag queens from reading to kids in public spaces.

Montana has become the first state to ban drag reading events, where drag kings or queens read children's books to minors, at public schools and libraries. The law does not require a sexual element to be banned, making it unique compared to similar bills in Florida and Tennessee. The bill has faced criticism for limiting free speech and targeting the LGBTQ+ community. Drag performers who opposed the legislation said they have separate drag performances for children compared to those intended for adults. The law took immediate effect after Republican Gov. Greg Gianforte signed it on Monday.
