Off-duty Sandwich officer charged after alleged OUI crash, placed on leave

An off-duty Sandwich, MA police officer, Matthew Cotter, was arrested after an alcohol-impaired crash on Grand Oak Road in Forestdale, damaging a resident’s flower beds and a parked car. He faces operating under the influence, negligent operation, marked lanes violations, and driving an unregistered vehicle, and is on leave ahead of a Barnstable District Court arraignment on Monday. No injuries were reported. An independent videographer at the scene says he was assaulted by Cotter’s relative, an incident under investigation, and Sandwich PD says it will conduct an internal review.
