Tensions Rise in Orleans Parish Sheriff Race Amid Jailbreak and Campaign Battles
TL;DR
The sheriff of New Orleans' Orleans Parish Jail attributes a recent brazen jailbreak to longstanding design flaws and staffing shortages, with only 60% of staff currently in place. The escape involved inmates breaking out through a hole and climbing a fence, with ongoing investigations into possible inside assistance. The sheriff blames delays in security upgrades on political challenges and is actively seeking the remaining escapee, Derrick Groves.
