Arkansas Benton County judge candidate arrested on multiple charges

Austin McCollum, the Republican nominee for Benton County judge and a state representative, was booked Aug. 1 on first-degree false imprisonment, aggravated assault on a family or household member, and third-degree domestic battery, and is being held without bond. Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Attorney General Tim Griffin, and Lt. Gov. Leslie Rutledge condemned the allegations and urged him to resign from the Legislature and withdraw from the county judge race; his campaign against independent Taylor Sizemore in November will continue as the GOP monitors the case.
