Boater dies diving to save his dog on Shasta Lake

Geordan White, 60, of Redding, jumped from a boat into Shasta Lake at Bailey Cove Boat Launch to rescue his dog after itfell in. A caller tossed a flotation device, but White couldn’t maintain his grip and disappeared beneath the surface. A dive team later recovered his body; the dog survived when the 911 caller pulled it from the water. An autopsy will determine the exact cause of death. Authorities remind boaters to wear personal flotation devices.
