Evicted tenant Carlton Johnson II linked to deadly Minneapolis downtown shooting

Authorities identified 35-year-old Carlton Johnson II as the suspect in the downtown Minneapolis shooting. Court records show he was facing eviction from a 9th-floor unit at Loring Tower after assaulting a resident, displaying a firearm, and threatening to kill; an eviction hearing was scheduled for Sept. 11, with a history of disturbances dating back to January. Police responding to an active shooter at the building found four people shot—one dead at the scene, another dead at the hospital—while two officers and two civilians were injured. Investigators say they are continuing to review Johnson’s background.
