Fatal Gary shooting prompts investigation; nine officers placed on leave

Nine officers were placed on administrative leave after a fatal officer-involved shooting in Gary, Indiana, near the Broadway and 4th Avenue metro station. Indiana State Police are leading the investigation. An armed security guard exhibited erratic behavior; after de-escalation efforts, gunfire was exchanged about 20 minutes later, and the guard died at the scene. Six Gary Police Officers and three Lake County Sheriff’s Officers discharged their weapons; names of the involved officers will not be released yet, and the investigation remains ongoing.
