Four Die in Seldovia Seaplane Crash; Victims Identified

Four people were killed when a Piper PA-24 seaplane bound for Seldovia crashed into the water near Seldovia and submerged. The pilot, Eric Middlebrook, 68, of Alaska, and three Californians—Ronald Schmidt, 65; Lance Schmidt, 20; and Daniel Simons, 82—were identified. The bodies were recovered after the tide lowered, autopsies will be performed, and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate; next of kin have been notified.
