Gann Fire Update: Evacuations Continue as Containment Edges Up in Calaveras

The Gann Fire near Hogan Dam in Calaveras County has burned about 10,373 acres with 10–19% containment as of Aug. 6, destroying 7 structures and injuring one firefighter in a dozer rollover. Mandatory evacuations remain in multiple zones, road closures are in place, and shelters are opened for people and livestock. An arrest has been made in connection with starting the fire (Herbert Wayne Smith), though he claims it was accidental. More than 2,700 firefighters, including Firehawk helicopters, continue containment and suppression efforts.
