Twitter Labels BBC and NPR as 'Government Funded Media'

The BBC has objected to Twitter's labelling of its main account as "government funded media" and has contacted the social media giant to resolve the issue. The BBC, which is funded by the British public through the licence fee, has always been independent. Elon Musk has suggested providing a label that would link to "exact funding sources" for media outlets. The BBC Charter states the corporation "must be independent", particularly over "editorial and creative decisions, the times and manner in which its output and services are supplied, and in the management of its affairs".
