Kilauea Volcano Erupts on Hawaii's Big Island After 3-Month Pause

Kilauea, one of the world's most active volcanoes located in Hawaii, has begun erupting again after a three-month pause. The eruption is occurring within the Halema’uma’u crater in the summit caldera, with lava flows on the crater floor's surface. The volcano's alert level has been raised to warning status, and the aviation color code has gone to red as scientists evaluate the eruption and associated hazards. All activity is within a closed area of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Kilauea had previously erupted from September 2021 until last December and again in January, lasting for 61 days.
