Kilauea Volcano Erupts with Spectacular Lava Fountains in Hawaii

Hawaii's Kilauea volcano erupted for the second time this year, with fountains of lava lighting up the night sky and filling the crater surrounding the volcano. Fortunately, the eruption was confined to a closed area of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and did not threaten any people or structures. Park officials are expecting crowds of people to flock to park overlooks to view the eruption, but warn visitors to avoid closed areas and potentially lethal volcanic fumes. Kilauea has repeatedly erupted over the past two decades, with a 2018 eruption destroying over 700 homes and devastating residential areas.
