Skier Rescued from Mount Washington Avalanche in New Hampshire

A skier in New Hampshire triggered an avalanche while skiing on Mount Washington, resulting in a life-threatening leg injury. The man's friend and another skier provided aid and called for help. A rescue effort involving the U.S. Forest Service, New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officers, and the National Guard was mobilized. The skiers cleared an area for a helicopter to lower a paramedic and equipment to lift the victim to safety. After nearly four hours, the victim was successfully rescued and flown to a hospital for treatment.
