Abortion bans and vetoes spark political battles in North and South Carolina.

The North Carolina Senate, led by Republicans, voted to override Democratic Governor Roy Cooper's veto of a bill that would ban most abortions after 12 weeks. The House, also controlled by Republicans, will now consider the veto. If a three-fifths vote of all voting and present members is achieved, the bill will become law. The bill would also prohibit health care providers who object to abortion "on moral, ethical, or religious grounds" from being required to participate in medical procedures that would result in an abortion.
