Allred announces Senate bid against Cruz in Texas.

Democratic Representative Colin Allred is expected to announce his candidacy for the Senate against Republican incumbent Ted Cruz in Texas. Allred, a former NFL linebacker and Baylor football standout, is in his third term in Congress and has won reelection twice. He has portrayed himself as being able to work across the aisle with a nonpartisan approach. Allred will have an uphill fight against Cruz, who has held his seat since 2013, and a Democrat hasn't won a statewide race in Texas since 1994. Other potential Democratic contenders include Julian Castro, Sylvester Turner, and Roland Gutierrez.
