Border Crisis Looms as Title 42 Expires and Biden Abandons Policy

The US-Mexico border remains secure as the Title 42 public health order expires, according to the Department of Homeland Security. DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas warned that people who arrive at the border without using a lawful pathway will be presumed ineligible for asylum and violators would face "tougher consequences." Border Patrol agents made another 10,000 migrant apprehensions on Wednesday, the third day in a row. Mayorkas cautioned that the country would see a brief rise in the number of migrant encounters at the border, and the DHS and its partners stand "ready to humanely process and remove people without a legal basis to remain in the U.S."
