Calls for Justice and Caution in Wake of Jordan Neely's Chokehold Death on NYC Subway

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez criticized Mayor Eric Adams for "demonizing the poor" after the death of Jordan Neely, a homeless man who was choked to death on the subway last week. Ocasio-Cortez blamed the high cost of living in New York City driving homelessness and the lack of support homeless and mentally ill New Yorkers receive. She also blamed Adams for gutting funding for services that could have prevented Neely's death, such as homelessness and mental health services. Adams responded by saying that the investigation into Neely's death is still ongoing and that "Jordan Neely did not deserve to die."
