Calls for Justice in Jordan Neely's Chokehold Death

The White House has called for a "thorough investigation" into the death of Jordan Neely, a Black man who died after being put in a chokehold by a subway rider in New York City. Neely, a homeless busker who appeared to be in mental distress, was held in a chokehold for about 15 minutes before being pronounced dead at a hospital. The incident has sparked protests and a national conversation about the violence and inhumane treatment that unhoused people, especially those with mental illness, often endure. The Manhattan district attorney’s office said Neely's death is under investigation.
