"Democrats Nominate GOP's Replacement for George Santos"

New York Republicans have chosen a registered Democrat, Mazi Melesa Pilip, as their nominee for the special election to replace expelled Rep. George Santos. Pilip, an Ethiopian-born Jew and Israeli Defense Force veteran, previously ran for a seat in the county legislature as a Republican but is registered to vote as a Democrat. She beat out other GOP nominees, including Air Force veteran Kellen Curry and IDF veteran Daniel Norber. The special election will be held on February 13, 2024, and Pilip will face off against Democrat and former Rep. Tom Suozzi. Santos, who has been earning money from personal videos on Cameo, has yet to endorse a candidate or respond to comments.
