DeSantis approves lower death penalty threshold in Florida.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a bill that allows juries to impose the death penalty even if all 12 jurors do not agree. He is also expected to approve a second bill that would make sexual battery of a child under age 12 a death penalty offense. Critics say the legislation violates the U.S. Constitution and could lead to wrongful executions. The new requirements mean prosecutors only need to convince eight out of 12 jurors that a defendant should be sent to death row. Florida has the highest death row population of any state that is actively carrying out executions.
