DeSantis Considers Pardoning Trump Amidst Federal Charges

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis suggested in an interview that he would consider pardoning former President Donald Trump if elected to the White House, stating that it wouldn't be good for the country to have an almost 80-year-old former president go to prison. DeSantis previously expressed willingness to pardon individuals involved in the Jan. 6 insurrection. Several other GOP contenders for the presidential nomination have also indicated they would pardon Trump if elected. Trump currently faces new charges related to classified documents and is under investigation for his role in the Jan. 6 attack and efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
