DeSantis Open to Pardoning Jan. 6 Defendants and Trump if Elected President

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a potential 2024 Republican presidential candidate, said he would prioritize issuing pardons for people who are deemed to be victims of "political targeting" on his first day as president, implying that former President Donald Trump could be part of that group. DeSantis also suggested that he would consider pardoning defendants charged in relation to the Jan. 6, 2021, storming of the U.S. Capitol. The governor accused the DOJ and FBI of being "weaponized" in multiple other ways, including by "going after parents" attending school board meetings.
