Dismissal of Tax Charges Against Hunter Biden Highlights GOP's Unserious Probe

A federal judge in Delaware dismissed tax misdemeanor charges against Hunter Biden after a plea agreement between the Justice Department and Biden's attorneys fell apart. The judge granted a motion to withdraw the case, and federal prosecutors are now preparing to bring charges against Hunter Biden in Washington, DC, or California. The dismissal was not opposed by Hunter's new attorney, Abbe Lowell. The judge also denied a request to unseal filings that contained IRS whistleblower allegations of political interference in the case. Attorney General Merrick Garland elevated David Weiss, the Delaware US Attorney, to special counsel, giving him additional investigative powers. Republicans have criticized the move as a "sweetheart deal" and have disagreed with Garland's decision to keep Weiss on the case.
