The number of warrantless FBI searches of Americans’ electronic data under the Section 702 program dropped sharply from millions of searches in 2021 to over 100,000 last year, according to a report by US intelligence agencies. The drop was due in part to stronger safeguards that the agency has put on analysts’ ability to search a database of foreign intelligence collected by US spy agencies.
