Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis Takes Aim at DEI Initiatives in Public Colleges

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law banning public colleges and universities from spending money on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, which he views as discriminatory. The law also bans what can be taught in the state's higher education institutions, including critical race theory and identity politics. DeSantis has been cracking down on what he calls "woke indoctrination" in schools and has appointed conservative allies to the board of trustees at New College of Florida to put it in a more conservative direction. The law will go into effect on July 1.
