Giuliani confesses to suppressing Hispanic vote with "dirty trick" in NYC mayoral race.

Rudy Giuliani admitted to using a "dirty trick" to suppress the Hispanic vote during New York City's 1993 mayoral race. Giuliani spent $2m to set up a Voter Integrity Committee which distributed cards in East Harlem warning that the INS would be picking up illegals at polling stations. Giuliani won the election against incumbent mayor David Dinkins by around 53,000 votes. Following the election, then-president Bill Clinton's justice department launched an investigation into Giuliani. Giuliani reassured his lawyer that they didn't violate civil rights, saying "all we did was prevent people who can't vote from voting. Maybe we tricked them, but tricking is not a crime."
