House Republicans passed the Parents Bill of Rights Act, which requires public schools to disclose all curricula, reading lists, library books, and budget costs, as well as force administrators and teachers to seek parents’ consent before changing a child’s gender status. The bill was opposed by Democrats who claimed it would target LGBTQ+ students and ban certain books from school libraries. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called the bill "fascist," while Republicans defended it as a way to protect parental rights and bring transparency and accountability to education. The bill was passed with just five Republicans opposing it.
