Johnson’s Vatican Gift to Pope Leo Takes a Subtle Shot at Trump
TL;DR
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson delivered a gift chest to Pope Leo XIV in the Vatican filled with more than two dozen Chicago memorabilia—giardiniera, DePaul diplomas, Cubs and White Sox gear, a city key, and letters from detained migrants—along with a ‘Immigrants Make America Greater’ hat and a sanctuary-city pin, a gesture read as a pointed dig at Trump and his immigration crackdown, contrasting with Marco Rubio’s earlier crystal football gift to the pope.
