House Speaker Nancy Pelosi praised House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy for his meeting with Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen, calling it a "leadership," "bipartisan," and "historic" event. McCarthy hosted the meeting at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California, attended by more than a dozen lawmakers from both parties. Chinese officials warned against the meeting, calling it a "serious political provocation." McCarthy is now the most senior elected U.S. official to meet with Tsai on U.S. soil.
