Michigan Governor Whitmer Repeals 90-Year-Old Abortion Ban

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has repealed a 1931 abortion ban that made it a four-year felony to assist in an abortion. The ban was made null and void by Roe v. Wade until the landmark decision was overturned in June by the US Supreme Court. The ban could have been enforced in the future had voters collected enough signatures to once again amend the state constitution and repeal abortion rights. Whitmer's signature eliminated that possibility, erasing the law completely.
