Michigan Senate Passes Gun Safety Measures in Response to Recent Shootings.

Michigan Senate Democrats passed a trio of gun safety measures, including expanding background checks, establishing gun storage requirements, and a new "red flag" law. The bills passed on party-line votes with the exception of a pair of bills to temporarily exempt firearm safety devices from sales and use taxes which had the support of two GOP lawmakers. Republicans argued for better enforcement of laws currently on the books instead of passing new gun laws. The bills now head to the state House for consideration.
