A Department of Justice report released on Friday concluded that the Minneapolis Police Department was plagued by unlawful conduct, discrimination, and mismanagement. The report found that Minneapolis police officers for years used excessive force, disproportionately targeted Black and Native American residents, and repressed the rights of protesters and journalists. The report likely landed differently in different parts of the city, with some residents finding little closure. The burden of rebuilding trust with communities will fall heavily on the Minneapolis Police Department, which has lost more than 300 officers and is running on fumes, weary from patrolling under a cloud of suspicion.
