Mississippi Democrats outraged over failure to confirm Black education secretary

Mississippi's Republican-led Senate rejected the confirmation of Robert P. Taylor as state superintendent of education, causing anger among some Black Democrats who believe the rejection was partly due to Taylor's race and his past writings about the state's racist history. Taylor, who would have been Mississippi's second Black state superintendent of education, had been working in the role since January. The state Board of Education will now search for another superintendent.
