Abortion-rights advocates in Missouri are seeking a rewrite of the descriptions of several constitutional amendments on abortion that could appear on the state's 2024 ballot, arguing that they are misleading. The proposed amendments aim to protect the "fundamental right to reproductive freedom" and include decisions on abortion, birth control, and childbirth. Republican Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft summarized the amendments as allowing "dangerous, unregulated, and unrestricted abortions." Advocates argue that the summaries are biased and fail to provide a neutral statement. The judge is expected to rule on the lawsuits next week. Similar battles over abortion access are taking place in other states following the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022.
