Nebraska Legislature Fails to Pass 6-Week Abortion Ban

A bill that would ban abortions in Nebraska after six weeks of pregnancy failed to advance in the Legislature by one vote. An amendment was introduced to change the legislation to ban abortions after 12 weeks of pregnancy, but it also failed to pass. The bill will not be rescheduled for debate, effectively killing it for this year. Governor Jim Pillen, a supporter of the bill, expressed disappointment and called on Senator Merv Riepe to make a motion to reconsider.
