NJ Officials Resist NYC's Congestion Pricing Plan with Transit Expansion

New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez has introduced federal legislation to prevent New York City's congestion pricing plan from moving forward, citing concerns that it would unfairly burden New Jersey drivers. Menendez's proposed law would take away New York's Federal Highway Administration funding in retaliation for congestion pricing. New Jersey drivers fear they will be charged twice to drive to Midtown, and commercial vehicles could be charged upwards of $80. The MTA said in a statement that penalizing them for taking steps invited and approved by the federal government is slightly absurd.
