NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell Steps Down.

Keechant Sewell, the first woman to lead the New York Police Department, has announced her resignation as commissioner. She did not provide a reason for her departure. Sewell was appointed by Mayor Eric Adams in 2022 and had made a strong impression on the rank and file during her short tenure. Her departure comes after she set a proposed punishment for one of the department's top chiefs, Jeffrey Maddrey, who was accused of interfering with the arrest of a retired officer.
