Oregon Legislature Passes Controversial Bills on Abortion, Trans Care, and Guns.

Oregon lawmakers passed amended versions of bills on guns, abortion, and gender-affirming care that were at the center of a six-week Republican walkout. The bills passed with bipartisan support, but not without opposition from GOP lawmakers. The compromise on the bill protecting access to abortion and expanding coverage for gender-affirming care modified the language concerning parental notifications for abortion. The sections requiring health insurance to cover medically necessary gender-affirming care for transgender people were not changed. The bill punishing the manufacturing or sale of undetectable firearms had several amendments dropped.
