Oregon Legislature Passes Controversial Bills on Abortion, Trans Care, and Guns.
Oregon lawmakers have passed amended versions of two bills on abortion and gender-affirming care, and guns, respectively, that were at the center of a six-week Republican walkout. The bills passed with bipartisan support, but not without opposition from GOP lawmakers. The bill on abortion and gender-affirming care was modified to remove the requirement for parental notifications for abortion and emergency contraception and medication abortions in public universities. The bill on guns had several amendments dropped, including increasing the purchasing age for semiautomatic rifles and placing more limits on concealed carry. The bills will now head to Democratic Gov. Tina Kotek for her signature.
