Proud Boys trial concludes with accusations against Trump

Former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio, on trial for his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, claimed during closing arguments that he was a scapegoat for Donald Trump. Tarrio's lawyer argued that it was Trump's words and motivation that caused the riot, not Tarrio. Prosecutors have portrayed Tarrio as the ringleader of the attack, along with four other Proud Boys leaders. They say the group's plan went into overdrive after Trump's Dec. 19, 2020 tweet calling on supporters to descend on Washington on Jan. 6, 2021 to challenge the election results.
