Anti-abortion groups and GOP lawmakers are pushing to tighten restrictions on ballot initiatives in several states, fearing that voters will restore abortion access by popular vote. Efforts to hike filing fees, raise the number of signatures required, restrict who can collect signatures, and raise the vote threshold to pass an amendment from a majority to a supermajority are underway in Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio, and Oklahoma. Advocates on both sides of the abortion fight stress that a ballot initiative fight in Oklahoma is still possible whether the state approves exceptions for rape and incest or not.
