Republican Senator Holds Justice Dept. Nominees Over Trump Case

Ohio Republican Senator JD Vance has announced that he will be putting a procedural hold on Department of Justice nominees, except for those for positions with the US Marshal Service, in response to the prosecution of former President Donald Trump for allegedly mishandling national defense information. Vance charged that the prosecution was politically motivated and endorsed Trump's 2024 presidential run. Vance's hold on nominees cannot block confirmation to executive branch positions, but it can slow down consideration on nominees that would otherwise have been considered noncontroversial.
