Florida Sen. Rick Scott has announced his candidacy for Senate GOP leader, entering a three-way race against GOP Sens. John Thune and John Cornyn. Scott, a close ally of former President Donald Trump, aims to replace outgoing leader Mitch McConnell. Despite being considered an underdog, Scott emphasizes his role as a "change agent" and has discussed his candidacy with Trump, who has yet to endorse a replacement. Scott's controversial past, including a proposal to sunset federal programs, continues to be a point of contention as he seeks reelection in 2024.
