San Francisco Mayor proposes record budget to tackle homelessness and crime.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed has proposed a budget that increases spending on homelessness and the police department, growing the city's budget by $612 million to $14.6 billion for the next fiscal year. The proposed increase comes as the city faces a projected two-year deficit of $780 million in the general fund. To offset higher spending, Breed’s budget dips into budget reserves, relies on other sources of funding, and lays out cuts in select city departments. The proposed budget will be hashed out at the Board of Supervisors and must be signed by Aug. 1.
