Shemia Fagan's Cannabis Controversy: Implications for Law License

Newly released records show that the owner of a cannabis company with financial ties to Oregon Secretary of State Shemia Fagan appears to have suggested the title and scope of work for an audit of the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission that Fagan’s staff would spend the next two years carrying out. Fagan recently apologized for taking on a $10,000-a-month consulting contract with an affiliate of marijuana dispensary chain La Mota and resigned effective May 8. The circumstances of what prompted the email to Fagan are not clear, nor is it known if the two had discussed the potential audit scope prior to the email.
