St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kimberly Gardner, who was backed by billionaire George Soros, has resigned from her position amid a scandal and accusations of mishandling cases. Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey had filed a petition to forcibly remove Gardner from her office over repeated instances where her office allegedly failed to enforce the law. Gardner's resignation is effective June 1, but Bailey still intends to move forward with his effort to remove her from office. Gardner has accused her critics of racism and sexism and has faced two contempt of court cases against her.
