Tennessee Governor Takes Action to Strengthen Gun Background Checks

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signed an executive order aimed at strengthening background checks for gun purchases and called on state lawmakers to pass red flag laws. The move comes after a shooting at a private Christian school in Nashville that left six people dead. The executive order would require criminal activity by a gun owner to be reported to authorities and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to examine the state’s current process for purchasing firearms. Tennessee is one of the deadliest states for gun violence and has some of the most lax gun measures in the country.
